20th January 2012 was a day Hwachiongians basked in the festive season with our campus was filled with a sea of red. With our very own Hwa Chong Chinese New Year celebrations, 龙腾瑞气,凤舞春风,students and teachers, notably our IP and DSA students alike, were in the mood to usher in the Chinese lunar New Year.

The central plaza, awash in red.

The street market was brimming with enthusiasm!

The morning was blessed with good weather and we were treated to performances from our Lion Dance troupe, Chinese Dance, Wushu, Choir and Chinese Orchestra. Specially for our celebrations this year, our Hwa Chong Parents Support Group (PSG) prepared a dragon dance which won the applause of the audience.

An energetic performance by our very own PSG.

The tradition of our Hwa Chong celebrations, which is the highlight of the event, was our mass lao yusheng session. Classes and teachers gathered around the tables and we carried out the lo hei as one Hwa Chong to bring in a prosperous new year.

The CNY celebrations ended off with a great bang as the dragon, hung in the sky of our central plaza, blessed with a shower of confetti. May everyone enjoy a happy and prosperous dragon year for 2012 and we hope you all enjoyed the celebrations as much as we did!

See you next year!
