Hot Off The Press: Basketball Guys and Girls, Softball Guys, Tennis Girls, Tchoukball

May 19th, 2010 by CCA PRO

19th May, 2010. This day will go down in history as our sportsmen took Hwachong to new heights. Be it at Yishun Sports Stadium, the Ayer-Rajah field, or at ACS International, our hearts beat as one to leave a legacy. This is the power of unity, where physical distance has no bearing on the power of the Hwachong spirit. Let us take a look at the matches that left us with jaw-dropping moments:

Basketball Girls

Our basketballers did us proud. Those present at the match witnessed how we were tied with Raffles Institution at 53-53 at the end of the fourth quarter, leaving us with quickened breaths and worries of disappointment. Those worries were unfounded, as HC fought back with much tenacity during overtime. Eventually, our thirst for the championship proved more wanting. When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 65-60. ‘Nuff said. We were the champions.

Basketball Guys

Following the exuberance from the girls’ match, our guys did not fail to match up. They exhibited much power in their finishes, stamping out any doubt of the world-class standard of HC Basketball. Anderson Junior College was eventually defeated by a score of 72-46. Spectators had a feast watching the strong performance of the team, and could only wow at the beauty of their play. Congrats to both the guys and girls team! Double champions, anybody?

Softball Guys

We walked onto the field with the mindset of winners, and left the field, as winners. The rain might have fallen, but never did it hint of dampening our spirits. At 12-0, the match was stopped until the skies let up. The softballers then continued to enthrall us spectators with their fantastic play, eventually giving a mightily convincing 14-2 win over Anglo-Chinese School Independent. Congratulations to the softball guys, national champions! We are proud of you:D

Tchoukball

In our first ever tchoukball tournament, this newly-formed CCA, not even a year old, did the school proud, coming in 5th. This maiden effort is extremely commendable, showing us the potential and passion that you guys have in this sport. We are so proud of you guys!! Continue striving to achieve greater heights in the years to come, and don’t ever give up. We are always behind you:D Jiayou HC Tchoukball! :)

1st Match: 15-20 to ACS International

2nd Match: Defeated Saint Andrew’s JC 15-2!

3rd Match: 19-24 to Anderson JC

4th Match: 20-21 to Innova JC

5th Match: 21-23 to Nanyang JC

Tennis Girls

The rain might have caused the match for the 3rd/4th placing to be postponed tomorrow, but it will certainly not put a dampener on our spirits! Jiayou HC Tennis!

Do look out for our match reports for the basketball and softball matches for more detailed descriptions as to what went on during the match! Once again, congratulations to all:) HCUNITE!

HC Tchoukball’s Successful Foray

April 25th, 2010 by CCA PRO

On the 24th April, HC Tchoukball participated in their first ever competition since their formation in March. Despite having been just founded a couple of weeks ago, the inaugural Hwachong Tchoukball team competed in the U18 Teengames Street Tchouball Tournament and have emerged with commendable results, achieving 2nd RUNNER-UP

U18 Teengames Street Tchoukball Tournament is a competition that draws tchoukball teams from various secondary schools, JCs, ITEs, and polytechnics from all over Singapore.

HC topped their group by winning all their games with the score of 10-5 and 8-6. Moving on to the quarterfinals, HC drew with KCPSS with a score of 11-11. In the following sudden death match, HC managed to overcome the odds and won the quarterfinals by beating KCPSS to scoring 3 points first.

However, HC crashed out of the semi-finals, losing to JVS with a score of 13-8

With these results within a short time of training, we can expect HC Tchoukball club to achieve better results in the upcoming “A” Division Nationals next month!

The team consists of:

Arnold Hu (C)
Jonathan Foo
Shaun Yeo
Alston Widjaja
Jon Tan
Tan Junrong
Kelvin Chua
Goh Yue Quan
Leonard Lee
Shane Lee
Cedric Chew
