1st Singles: 9-1
2nd Singles: 9-5
3rd Singles: 9-1
1st Doubles: 4-9
2nd Doubles: 9-6
Basketball Boys
The boys from the basketball team got their 2nd round campaign to a flying start with a 81-49 victory over Jurong JC at the Singapore Basketball Centre. Their 2 remaining matches of the 2nd round are against ACSI on Friday, 7th May and AJC on Tuesday, 11th May! All the way, boys!
Soccer Boys
In their last fixture of the quarter-finals, opponents Serangoon JC put 2 past HC to go into the break 2-0. Despite dominating possession in the 2nd half, HC failed to capitalize on their chances and finished the game 0-2. The draw for this 2nd round of the competition did not go easy on the boys’ team as they faced last year’s champions VJC, runners-up MJC and another top seed SRJC. We applaud the soccer team making it this far, and for breaking HC’s 6-year drought by making it into the quarter finals itself!
Bowling
In today’s Girls Doubles event at the Nationals, our girls managed to maintain a seeded position even though there was a sligth dip in average score. Special mention to Goh Xin Yan who bowled a high game of 245! The boys team will be having their Quartet event tomorrow, which is crucial in determining the boys team’s chances of achieving the 4th or 5th seeded position for the first time in 10 years. Go HCBowl!
Volleyball Boys
Facing off Temasek Junior College earlier today, the volleyballers continued their winning streak achieved since the start of this season with a score of 2-0, with individual set scores 27-25 and 25-19, and have proceeded easily into the second round. Meeting more skilled opponents in the next round, the team will need every support you can give. All the best!
Badminton Boys
Deemed another crucial match which determined the success of entry into the second round, our shuttlers grabbed this opportunity to display their prowess against Temasek Junior College, winning them with a narrow score of 3-2 and are through to the next round. Well done!
Basketball Girls
Playing against Dunman High today, our basketballers, ONCE AGAIN(!) achieved an exhilarating, fantastic, and awesome score of 94-12! Congratulations to the team!

26th April saw HCBowl vying for supremacy in the singles event for the men’s category, and the boys from the HC Bowling did well to contend for the 3rd/4th seeded position for this year’s bowling Nationals. The placing also depends on the upcoming doubles and quadruples matches. (Check out the dates of the competition in the Bowling Season Preview!) Special mention goes to Loh Jun Yan of 09S7H who bowled a high game of 256.
Today, the girls took part in their singles events, and the highest average from the team came from Eunice Kho who bowled an average of 172. Similarly, the girls’ team are in contention for the top seeded positions, which depends on the upcoming doubles and quadruples as well. Let’s wish the bowling team all the best for their Guys Doubles Event which is taking place tomorrow!

2nd Doubles: 9-2

Well done girls! Their next match will be at home ground against CJC on the 4th of May. Let’s wish them all the best!
Badminton Girls
Our female shuttlers headed for Tampines Sports Hall for their maiden match of the season today against Meridian Junior College, and after fighting hard to gain the upper hand in the sets which eventually concluded by a mere difference of a few points, they eventually lost the game 1-4 to the school boasting of more skilled players.
First Singles: Nicola Koay
First to represent her team in the competition arena, Nicola’s coverage of the court was excellent and she executed some really cool cross-court smashes! The first set was a really close fight but the point went to MJC as Nicola lost 18-21. The game was ended after her powerful Chinese opponent claimed the second set too, winning 2-0 and obtaining the first point for the opponent team.
First Doubles: Chan Minhui, Seah Jiaxin
Both girls demonstrated incredible pairwork and had good rapport with each other. The shuttle was constantly in favour of their skilled shots, and they managed to hit the shuttle into sweet spots, nailing the match point by point and winning both sets 21-15, 21-15.
Second Singles: Lai Kairou
The second singles lost the match 0-2, with a score of 16-21 for both sets. Nevertheless, she did put up a good fight and showed her will and determination, giving her opponent a good run around the badminton court area.
Second Doubles: Ng Eeyang, Low Yuan Yi
The familiar girls doubles pair who have played and trained hard together since Nanyang performed astounding cross court defences and coverage for each other on court. However, it was a close match and they lost the match 16-21, 14-21.
Third Singles: Seah Jiaxin
The last female player to enter the court faced off with the the strongest player from MJC‘s team, and succumbed 7-21, 9-21, after playing a match of very good defence in terms of anticipation on her part.
The shuttlers will meet their next opponent, Innova Junior College, this Thursday at Tampines Sports Hall once again. Do show them your utmost support and we wish them success for their next match!
Softball Guys
After their match against National Junior College was postponed due to bad weather, the softballers met them on homeground today, reds vs whites. Once again the team has done the school proud by winning the match with the huge difference of 20-4, proving that they are nevertheless, undeterred by the unpredictable weather which continues to plague those CCAs whose competitions are held in the outdoors. Congratulations to all softballers!

Match Report: Soccer Girls vs TJC
April 23rd, 2010 by CCA PROOn 21st April, Hwachong Girls Soccer team headed into a hugely-anticipated match against TJC to maintain their hopes of entering the semifinals of this season for the first time ever.
The starting line-up was as follows:
Nicolea Tan
Ethel Phang Amanda Lau Law Weining Tan Lay Eng
Ong Jieqi Nur Atiqa Asri Priscilla Chao Chew An Ning
Mao Ye Zhen Charis Wong

The first half began with team HC holding most of the possession of the ball, with midfielders Chew An Ning, Priscilla Chao and Ong Jieqi making things difficult for team TJ. Midway through the first half, striker Mao Yezhen slammed the ball into the net only to have the referee disqualify the goal due to ‘pushing’ in the 6-yard box. The first half of the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate, which spurred the team on to put the ball in the net early in the second half. Lo and behold, 5 minutes into the second half, team HC turned up the heat, with Co-Captain An Ning scoring a goal through a magnificent volley, taking TJC by shock. Centre-mid Nur Atiqa Asri confirmed Hwachong’s prowess by slotting in a second goal a few minutes later.
As the girls team celebrated the second goal, An Ning stroked in a third goal, confirming HC’s win for the day. The team kept up the pressure though, with An Ning, Atiqa and rightback Ethel Phang attempting several shots on target. The team’s backline could not be forgotten though, with leftback Tan Lay Eng, centrebacks Law Weining and Amanda Lau as well as Ethel Phang for keeping a strong defense. The defense line can also be greatly commended for not conceding a single goal for the past 4 matches. The game concluded with HC conquering TJC with a score of 3-0.

However, the sweet victory over TJC could not confirm team HC’s entry into the semifinals as SAJC failed to beat MJC, causing HC to slide down to third place in the preliminary group round, denying the team’s hopes of entering the semifinals. However, the team’s efforts can be seen and there is no doubt that HCGS will turn the tables around in the next season.

Hot Off the Press: Squash Boys Semifinals, Canoe, Tennis Boys, Basketball, Volleyball Boys, Soccer Boys, Rugby
April 23rd, 2010 by CCA PROAs the schooling week comes to a close, our sports teams will no doubt wish to end a gruelling week on a high note, and these fixtures were a perfect avenue for appropriate venting. Alas, these guys did not disappoint as HC was propelled towards greater things after today.
Squash Boys SEMIFINALS
The boys’ squash team walked into the Kallang Squash Centre Court 2 with zero complacency, expecting a tense encounter with ACS(I). After the girls’ team’s loss at the hands of Raffles, their boys counterparts were even more determined to bring home the championship title. Our boys played with sheer will and composure, emerging victorious with a 4-1 win despite falling behind after the first match.
The lineup was as follows:
Ryn Wu 0-3
Darren Toh 3-0
Jason Ho 3-0
Alex Lim 3-0
Bryan Seow 3-0
Having gained entry into the finals, the squash team will give their 200% to be crowned champions. Do support the boys in every way you can in their most crucial fixture of the season!
Canoe [Dragon Boating]
Today, our canoeing team emerged NATIONAL CHAMPIONS for the A Division in the 10th National Schools’ Dragon Boat Championship 2010! This simply demonstrates HCanoe’s prowess in the canoeing scene this year, and possibly in the many years to come. What an amazing feat, guys! We’re immensely proud of you! Check out the Hall of Fame for their accolades!
Volleyball Boys
The volleyball guys met Serangoon Junior College today and displayed tremendous skill by sweeping both sets easily with a score of 25-5, 25-3. Well done!
Tennis Boys
The tennis team faced little challenge today as they produced another 5-0 win, this time over visitors MJC. The boys will face SRJC at their home ground on the 28th of April. All the best, HC Tennis!
Basketball Girls
First match into the season and our basketball girls unleashed their merciless streak, showing who owned the court by scoring a whooping 96-5 against Yishun Junior College. Watch out, people, the game has only just started! Amazing feat accomplished by our girls today! You girls certainly can challenge the boys’ team’s records! (:
Basketball Boys
The basketball boys continued their spotless record with a 67-33 win over Temasek JC at the Singapore Basketball Centre today. The significant decrease in the point gap of the scoreline compared to previous matches can only mean that the season is heating up faster than we can imagine. Go boys! Continue to do us proud!
Soccer Boys
Having won their last group match against AJC, the ultimate progress of the team depended on AJC’s last match. Over the course of this week, the soccer team had their fingers crossed, duly hoping AJC would do HC a favour by winning their match by a goal. When news of the final score broke out, where AJC won 2-1, the soccer team could not have been happier this season. HC is proud of you for making it further than any previous team! Dominate that 2nd roun match, boys!
Rugby
The HCI vs CJC match is again postponed due to heavy rain, this time to Monday, 26th April. Go boys!

April 21st, 2010 by CCA PROSoccer Girls
It all boiled down to the last match of the group stages. Prior to this, the girls were hoping SAJC would do them a favour by coming out of the match unbeaten against MJC. Our girls’ soccer team produced their finest result of the season, with a delectable 3-0 win over TJC. However, luck was not on HC’s side, as MJC secured a narrow 1-0 win over SAJC, effectively ending HC’s campaign.
It will be an emotional day for team, but you girls have no doubt done HC proud by coming so far, and by improving vastly and consistently over the weeks/months! The MJC-SAJC match was not under your control, so just know that you’ve done a great job this year! Rock on, HCGS!
Volleyball Girls
HC was edged out 2-1 by defending champions NYJC, 26-24, 20-25, 20-25. Nonetheless, our girls’ team have still advanced into the quarter-finals with a superior set advantage, as NYJC was previously defeated by AJC, while HC won their fixture against AJC 2-1. Knockout rounds! The heat is here, show them the HC standard, Volleyball!
Netball
The Netball team exacted another great season opener for HC as they secured a 54-28 win over RVHS! Keep it up, netballers!
Never give up, HC! You guys can do it! Good luck for all upcoming matches!
