Hot Off The Press: Volleyball guys, Volleyball girls, Softball guys, Rugby, Floorball girls, Badminton guys, Harmonica, Tennis
April 25th, 2011 by CCA PROIt was an exciting Monday with many competitions taking place all around town. Let’s take a look at the results for today:
Volleyball
Today, the guys met AJC early in the morning for the first match of their quarter finals. They lost 29-31 in a closely fought first set, and 17-25 in the second set. There are still 2 more quarters this week for you guys to show that fighting spirit, and that magic we know you can bring on court. Jiayou.
Following the guys match, the girls played PJC and with much support from their guy counterparts, won 25-8, 25-11! Congratulations:)
Softball guys
The softballers trashed NJC, 11-1 today! Congratulations, and jiayou:)
Rugby
The team met MI this afternoon, and having suffered defeats in the past couple of matches, it seemed that we had a chance at the beginning when we led strongly with a score of 6-0. Unfortunately, we lost this precious lead and eventually lost 6-10. Don’t let this get you down, guys.
Floorball girls
In the opening match of the season, the floorball girls met heavyweights VJC, and lost 4-8. This is a good comeback for the girls, who lost by a scoreline of 1-8 against the same school last year, and threw off their opponents who were expecting an easy game. We believe that you girls will show strong performances in the next few matches of the group stages, so keep pressing on.
Badminton guys
Also in the first match of their season, the team won JJC, 3-2! Nice start to the season, and keep achieving greater heights in the rest of the season.
Harmonica
In their SYF today, HC’s Harmonica Ensemble brought home the one and ONLY gold award of the competition! Congratulations to HC Harmonica, and check back for a detailed competition report soon:)
Tennis
Also playing in the quarter finals today were the Tennis Boys and Girls. The Boys lost 2-3 to ACS(I) in a close fight, and certainly did not let their opponents have it easy. The Girls won convincingly 5-0 against SAJC. Well done! Both teams will be playing two more matches each on Wednesday and Friday, which will determine if they can continue on to the semis. Jiayou, and unleash the spark within you!
It is just the start of an exciting, and extremely crucial week for many CCAs as they enter the later stages of their respective competitions. Let’s rally behind our schoolmates, and give them our utmost support. HCunite!
Hot Off The Press: Squash (Boys), Soccer (Girls), Touch Rugby, Table Tennis, Water Polo (Boys), Rugby
April 6th, 2011 by CCA PROWednesdays are always especially important days for our sports teams as many go out to meet their opponents, fighting their hardest for Hwa Chong. Let’s take a look at what went on around the island today:
Squash (Boys)
The guys met NYJC today and eventually emerged the winners with an astounding score of 5-0! With their second win in tow, they look set for a strong season, and are a dominant force in the squash scene! Keep this up, guys!
Soccer (Girls)
Today, the soccer girls scored twice against NJC, and did not let them have a chance to get on the score sheet for all of 90 minutes! A score of 2-0 to HC is no mean feat. Jiayou for the upcoming matches!
Touch Rugby
Once again, the Touch Rugby girls proved that they should be feared on the pitch, winning 4-0 against MI! The match against NYJC was postponed to a later date due to weather circumstances. Let’s hope they continue their unbeaten run:)
Table Tennis
Today, both the guys and girls teams met against RJ, an extremely strong opponent in the Table Tennis arena. Both teams fought with much grit and power, but eventually fell 1-4 for the guys, and 2-3 for the girls. However, we did not give them an easy time as seen by the slim score margins. This Friday, they will meet with RJ again in the semi-finals. We would like to appeal for supporters for this crucial match. Buses will be provided so please head down to support our players if you are free! More details will be given during tomorrow’s morning announcement. To both teams, keep fighting! We will always be supporting you!
Water Polo (Boys)
The boys team met ACJC today, and beat them with a score of 7-5! Nice one, guys!
Rugby
The Rugby team met ACS(I) today, and unfortunately lost 0-65. However, do not let this get you down, guys, and keep pushing on! Be resilient and show your opponents what you’ve got:)
And this wraps up the matches played today. Amongst the wins and losses, one thing for sure is that the whole school is supporting our sportsmen and sportswomen! Jiayou, HC!

April 23rd, 2010 by CCA PROAs the schooling week comes to a close, our sports teams will no doubt wish to end a gruelling week on a high note, and these fixtures were a perfect avenue for appropriate venting. Alas, these guys did not disappoint as HC was propelled towards greater things after today.
Squash Boys SEMIFINALS
The boys’ squash team walked into the Kallang Squash Centre Court 2 with zero complacency, expecting a tense encounter with ACS(I). After the girls’ team’s loss at the hands of Raffles, their boys counterparts were even more determined to bring home the championship title. Our boys played with sheer will and composure, emerging victorious with a 4-1 win despite falling behind after the first match.
The lineup was as follows:
Ryn Wu 0-3
Darren Toh 3-0
Jason Ho 3-0
Alex Lim 3-0

Canoe [Dragon Boating]
Today, our canoeing team emerged NATIONAL CHAMPIONS for the A Division in the 10th National Schools’ Dragon Boat Championship 2010! Tennis Boys
The tennis team faced little challenge today as they produced another 5-0 win, this time over visitors MJC. The boys will face SRJC at their home ground on the 28th of April. All the best, HC Tennis!
Basketball Girls
First match into the season and our basketball girls unleashed their merciless streak, showing who owned the court by scoring a whooping 96-5 against Yishun Junior College. Watch out, people, the game has only just started! Amazing feat accomplished by our girls today! You girls certainly can challenge the boys’ team’s records! (:
Basketball Boys
The basketball boys continued their spotless record with a 67-33 win over Temasek JC at the Singapore Basketball Centre today. The significant decrease in the point gap of the scoreline compared to previous matches can only mean that the season is heating up faster than we can imagine. Go boys! Continue to do us proud!
Soccer Boys
Having won their last group match against AJC, the ultimate progress of the team depended on AJC’s last match. Over the course of this week, the soccer team had their fingers crossed, duly hoping AJC would do HC a favour by winning their match by a goal. When news of the final score broke out, where AJC won 2-1, the soccer team could not have been happier this season. HC is proud of you for making it further than any previous team! Dominate that 2nd roun match, boys!

The HCI vs CJC match is again postponed due to heavy rain, this time to Monday, 26th April. Go boys!
