Il Bacio 2010!

The Hwa Chong Guitar Ensemble has put up a successful concert last friday on 7th May! Held in Cheng Yi Auditorium from 7.30pm, Il Bacio attracted a full-house of more than 600 people including parents, teachers, external guests and students from various schools.
One of the earliest performing arts concerts held this year, the Guitar Ensemble presented enchanting repertoires including movie theme songs like “Married Life” from the movie “UP”, classical pieces like “La Cumparsita”, famous Japanese and Korean songs like “Kiss the Rain” and “Melodies of Life”, and many other pop songs.
Highlights include special guest performances by our teacher Mr Matthew Quek and our conductor Ms Magdalene Wong. Mr Quek captivated the audience with famous vocal songs like “Destiny”, while Ms Wong enthralled the audience with harp solos such as “The Harpist’s Dream”.
A singing performance including various Korean songs was also put up by guitar club members Pei Ying, Randy and Ying Ling. Of course, a special duet “Wedding Bells” was also put up by Zheng Rui and Tran Ha Duong.
The Hwa Chong Guitar Ensemble would like to extend the deepest gratitude for all who attended the concert, and hope that you enjoyed a night of wonderful melodies.

Guitar Ensemble Presents: Il Bacio (The Kiss)
May 4th, 2010 by CCA PROAfter Varolari 2007 and Esperanza 2008, the Hwa Chong Guitar Ensemble is proud to be back to present to you Il Bacio 2010, this 7th May, 7:30 pm at College Auditorium!
What is love? Il Bacio (The Kiss) 2010 takes you on a special journey to discover one’s changing perception of love, from childhood to the future. Be prepared to be whisked away into a world of fantasy by the ensemble with their romantic touch of the guitars, Mr Matthew Quek – our teacher and an accomplished local singer with his soulful voice as well as renowned harpist – our conductor Ms Magdalene Wong. The performances range from familiar Spanish repertoires such as Romance de Amor to contemporary tunes of Kiss the Rain to popular melodies including Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin and Tonghua.

Season Preview: Guitar Ensemble

Although today’s performance setting was rather small, it still did garner a fair bit of attention and the quality of music was not affected by the space limitations, as can be seen by the receptiveness of the audience. The audience soon gathered and excitedly dragged some canteen benches to get a closer look at what’s going on to support their friends who were performing or simply to check out the good music! One could see that all present were enjoying this performance through the smiles of approval on their faces while some cheered enthusiastically for their friends in the ensemble.
Let us continue to support the Guitar Ensemble in their efforts as they strive for their SYF performance which would take place on the 28th of April! Jiayou Guitar Ensemble!
