Foodback! Survey Report

May 6th, 2009 by HCunite

Dear students,

As promised, I’ve uploaded the Foodback! survey results report online for your downloading and viewing pleasure. The results are organised according to the different stalls. Do note that all recommendations made in the report are non-binding, but rest assured that we have pushed and will push for them to the best of our ability. Also note that they may not be implemented all at once, but more likely in incremental steps. A lil patience is appreciated (:

Do look through, and if you have any gripes about the results, do air your views on the Forums page! The canteen can only be improved with YOUR opinions.

Click here for the survey report, here for the open-ended part of the survey (if you need a reference), and here for the MCQ part of the survey.

Canteen Issues and Foodback! Canteen Survey

May 5th, 2009 by HCunite

Dear students,
If some of you have been wondering what happened to the Foodback! canteen survey that went on some time back, fret not! Just to update you, here’s what happened:

1) Posting of survey on SMB
2) Completion of survey by students
3) Compilation of survey results (yeps this took quite some time – we apologize for it)
4) 27/4 – Dialogue with school admin and Roger (the overall canteen in-charge liaison)
5) ONGOING – follow-up with the individual vendors by Roger
6) 1 MONTH’S TIME – follow-up dialogue with Roger

In a nutshell – what came out of the dialogue on 27/4:
1) Roger acknowledged that some vendors are simply not up to scratch. He will talk to them again and voice out our concerns to the vendors. Specific vendors with major problems identified include Chinese Cuisine (taste), Muslim Food (hygiene), Italiano Supremo (cost) and Mixed Veg Rice (price, size of portions).
2) School will keep closer check on the vendors to ensure that hygiene, cost, quality of food and service are balanced and none are compromised.
3) We will meet again 1 month later to follow-up and see if there has been any improvement in the canteen food.
4) Students should be informed that for many of the vendors, it’s their first time in a school canteen so they have to have some time to adjust to the situation here. Previously, many of them were cooking for hawker centres and industrial park canteens, and I’m sure we’ll all agree that there’s definitely a difference between cooking in such places and cooking in schools. (Cost, for one.) If we kick them out and get new vendors in the same issue of inexperience will rear its ugly head again.

Rest assured that all that you indicated in the Foodback! canteen survey have been mentioned during the dialogue – from serious issues like alleged unfair/ripoff/scam pricing scheme from the mixed veg rice to lighter ones like drinks from the cold drinks stall being not cold enough, all have been raised!

For more information and detailed information about the latest canteen revamp and feedback system, stay tuned to our various modes of communication – this Forum, SMB, flyingwithwelfair.blogspot.com, and even MOCH. Watch out for a comprehensive MOCH article detailing the history of the canteen, from the revamp last December till the present day.

EDIT: Today (4/5)  I met with Roger again and followed up on some of the stalls. Roger is cracking down on the Muslim food hygiene, and he’s checked with the Chinese Cuisine stall – the reason why many of you commented that the food is slightly bland is because they use very little MSG and flavouring in their soup (hence the food there is very very healthy!). I suggested that they add chicken stock or some other non-MSG flavouring. He agreed and mentioned that he would pass the information on. Lastly, for all tau huay lovers out there – look out for tau huay, possibly coming in next week!

Any comments – please post on http://forum.hcunite.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3! And complete the fun poll on whether you think chicken rice stall is the best stall in the canteen (as the Foodback! poll suggests to us…)
