December 9th, 2009 by CCA PROThis year, the Hwa Chong Symphonic Band (HCSB) guest performed in a concert, HCImpressione, put up by the Hwa Chong Institution (High School) Military Band (HCIMB).
The audience was treated to a repertoire of many pieces- including familiar sound tracks from movies Artificial Intelligence and The Patriot, in John Williams’ Symphonic Soundtracks. Fans of the animated film Princess Mononoke by Hayao Mizaki were not disappointed as well, with the HCIMB’s rendition of Mononoke Medley.
Other highlights included the piece Orient Express, a combined piece with the HCIMB. The exhilarating music brought the audience on board a luxurious train, where they experienced the thrill and excitement as the music accelerated, simulating the movements of the train. The composition Xinyao Medley also won the hearts of audience who came from an older generation, with familiar tunes from pieces such as 細水長流, a composition by one of Hwa Chong’s notable alumni, Liang Wen Fu.
The audience was also entertained with the gimmicks put up by our band, in our piece Japanese Graffiti, where we danced and grooved to the lively music.
Our band enjoyed the performance wholeheartedly, and would like to thank all who have made this possible – our conductor, Mr Darence Leng, HCIMB for inviting us to perform and finally the audience who came down to support us!

Event Preview: HC Band Concert ’09
November 24th, 2009 by CCA PROHCI College Band will be co-performing with HCI (High School) Band in HCImpressione to be held this Saturday, 28th November, 7.30pm at Cheng Yi Auditorium.
Be treated to a smorgasbord of pieces – Join the band on an exciting journey aboard the Orient Express; listen to familiar tunes from Xinyao Medley, as well as movie soundtracks in John Williams’ Symphonic Soundtracks. The High School will also be bringing to you several pieces such as Highlights from the High School Musical, as well as Little Mermaid Medley.

Hot off the press: Band SYF

Season Preview: Band

As with any other performing arts CCA in this school, this year is another important year for hcband as it is the year of SYF again. We will be performing on the second day of the competition (TOMORROW) at Republic Polytechnic’s Cultural Center. It will be an exciting two days of competition as each band display their finest skills and deliver music to the hearts of the audience. This year, hcband will be competing with Overture no. 2 and Hymn to the Sun. We hope to have the time of our life this time and touch the audience with our music. All the best to the other CCAs for their competitions!
Besides SYF, hcband will be organizing its annual mid-year concert – Capriccio XXV! It will be held on 13 June at the Victoria Concert Hall. It will be another fun-filled night of familiar tunes and music. We hope that you will enjoy once again for another enthralling night and immerse yourself in the music that we all love!
