Outdoor Film Festival – Chungking Express (17 Feb!)

February 17th, 2012 by CCA PRO

This ♥ day, ELDDFS presents Chungking Express, a film by Wong Kar-wai.

The film features two romance stories, each involving a policeman. Along the way, various guns, wigs, soft toys and the Mamas and the Papas make repeated appearances. The four leads are played by popular Asian actors Tony Leung, Faye Wong, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Brigitte Lin. Beautifully shot (by renowned cinematographer Christopher Doyle), masterfully edited and deftly scored, Chungking Express is truly a cinematic treat.

The movie was conceived out of Wong’s frustration at the obstacle-plagued and drawn out process of editing his wuxia epic. Seeking to escape the cutting room, he began production of an unwritten movie, which he wrote during the day and shot at night. Two months later, Chungking Express was released – its casually quirky storylines indicative of the influence of its highly spontaneous production.
