Hot Off The Press: Squash girls, Volleyball, Touch rugby, Soccer girls, Tennis, Track & Field finals

April 27th, 2011 by CCA PRO

To say that today was a crucial for CCAs in HC today would be an understatement. Amidst tears and fears, there were victories and losses alike. Let’s see how we fared today:

Squash Girls (FINALS)

Last year, we met them in the Semi-finals, one round earlier than we expected due to unforeseen circumstances. We lost. This year, we met them in the Finals, hoping to exact our revenge. However, we would have to wait another year for this chance to hold the Championship trophy. Despite our best efforts, the we were unable to crack down on our opponents. Today, HC lost to RI 1-4 in the finals. We would like to commend the squash girls for showing their fighting spirit, and never giving up even when the going seems tough. Nonetheless, congratulations to the Squash Girls for coming in 2nd in the A Division Nationals! What the spectators saw today was nothing but top notch sportsmanship, class, and effort. Thank you for letting us witness that. We cannot be less proud of you girls. Check back soon for a detailed match report and photos!

Volleyball (Quarters)

Following a disheartening loss on Monday for the guys, they came back today fighting stronger, not letting Monday’s match bring them down. With renewed spirit and hope, the guys beat Dunman High in straight sets 25-2, 25-10! This is what we call the Hwachong spirit! Friday’s match against TJC is extremely crucial for the guys, and will determine if they can move on to the next round. Here’s wishing you all the best, and let’s show them the champions in you guys! Jiayou!

For the girls, they met Temasek JC today and also beat them in straight sets 25-22, 25-6! Nice one, and let’s keep this spirit up! You girls can do it!

Touch Rugby

The touch rugby girls met with two schools today – Jurong JC and St Andrew’s JC. Unfortunately, we lost to both schools by extremely narrow margins of 1-3 for the former, and 1-2 for the latter. This was a blow to the girls. However, we believe that you girls will push on, and not give up. Let’s show them what we’ve truly got, girls. Jiayou!

Soccer Girls

Today, the soccer girls played their last match of the season. Although we lost 1-0 to NUS High, a narrow margin, we believe the girls have played their hearts out, to the best of their abilities. For that, we applaud you. The season might have come to an end, but we believe you girls will come back stronger and more formidable next year!

Tennis (Quarters)

Both the guys and girls teams played this afternoon. For the guys, they lost 1-4 to ACJC, putting them out of the title challenge. We have all seen the guys training under the sweltering heat many afternoons, training their hardest to put up a strong challenge in the Nationals. We would like to congratulate the guys for a well-played season, and also, all the best for next year’s nationals!

The girls lost by the same scoreline as well, to RI. They still stand a chance of moving on to the next round, pending the results of this Friday’s as well as next Wednesday’s match. Jiayou, and give all you’ve got! HC’s behind you all the way:D

Track and Field (FINALS)

In today’s Track and Field Finals, Hwachong made a clean sweep of the A, B, and C Division boys championships! Not faring much worse, the A Girls came in National 2nd! Congratulations to the teams! Check back soon for more details of the individual titles.

With that, it rounds up an exciting day for Hwachong. Regardless of whether it was a win or a loss, HC will ALWAYS be behind our Hwachongians. As the matches become increasingly crucial as we rush head first into the competition season, we would just like to give a shout-out to those competing: JIAYOU!
