Racial Harmony Day 2010

July 27th, 2010 by CCA PRO

HELLO everybody/Halo semua/大家好/yellorukkum vanakkam! The wonderful festivities of Racial Harmony Day have drawn to a close, and hopefully everyone had fun dressing up as well as watching the celebrations! (:

Of course, aside from the excitement of seeing your friends all dressed up in the beautiful costumes from the various races, the most important thing we must remember about Racial Harmony Day is its message of peace between all races. After all, beneath the different colours of our skin we are still the same – one nation, one Singapore!

Anyways, fast forward from 7am to 3pm, and we see ourselves at the hall, sighing at the thought of sitting through yet another boring event. If only we knew how wrong we were, we wouldn’t have been sitting there with mouths wide open in awe. It truly was a feast to behold.

First up was Mr Zainuddin, President of the inter religious organisation. As he walked to take centrestage with a beard that made him look venerable, you could feel his aura of wisdom spreading throughout the whole hall. Side effects included a temporarily(?) inflated ego and the feeling that you’ll get straight A’s for promos, among others. His qi aside, lets talk about the content of his presentation. It was definitely informative, and though some(?) people would get bored listening to it, you can’t deny that this guy knows his stuff. For your passion and dedication, and for taking time off your busy schedule to talk to us, we sincerely thank Mr Zainuddin(though i doubt he even reads hcunite).

And after that came the most exciting part: THE FASHION SHOW! If your cheers were any indication of the magnificence of the show, it was pretty obvious that the “models” put up an absolutely mind-blowing performance. The multitude of colours was a perfect representation of the people of sunny Singapore – varied, but altogether dazzling and harmonious. (: From the vibrant Indian outfits to the FABULOUS (who could forget the ruffles and the top hat?) Eurasian costumes, every single piece showcased the uniqueness of each culture, and celebrated our togetherness despite our differences. Here we would like to thank all our friends who gamely volunteered to be models for the fashion show, we hope you had as much fun strutting your stuff as we did watching you! It was definitely an eye-opener for all of us Hwachongians.

Kudos to 10S67 for dressing up in the same costume, its nice to see that there remains some sense of spirit and unity amongst the j1 batch 7 months into this gruelling curricula of ours.

As we study in a predominantly Chinese environment, it is easy to forget the importance of racial harmony. Therefore, peace is a goal that we must actively take steps towards. Remember, it’s more than just tolerance – you and I all have a part to play in embracing the cultures of others while celebrating our own. To end off, we hope the celebrations have been both fun and educational for you, and let’s all spread the message of peace and harmony together :)
