What’s up, Hwachong!

June 20th, 2010 by CCA PRO

The fourth, and final week of the June Holidays starts tomorrow! Let’s take a look at what Hwachongians have been up to for the past couple of weeks:)

1. OCIP Trips

4 OCIP trips in total were carried out this June – Cambodia, Nepal, Sichuan and Vietnam! There were definitely many takeaways from each trip, from the tangibles such as souvenirs, to the intangibles like lifelong memories; from hard skills such as construction, to soft skills like communication. In one way or another, these trips have not only made a mark in each of the countries visited, but our students in return definitely benefited from them in one way or another. Do look out for more OCIP trips at the end of the year!

Cambodia!

Nepal!

Sichuan!

2. OE Trip to Bhutan

With strict limits on visitor numbers, a lucky group of students had the opportunity to embark on an OE trip to Bhutan! This was as much a trip where students got to enjoy the outdoors and nature, as it is a cultural one with many getting the chance to soak up the rich and unique culture of Bhutan. Once again, an unforgettable and memorable trip!

3. IH Trip to Europe

Cultural and historic sites were visited, shopping was done, chocolates were eaten, and HC left their mark in Germany and Poland. This was as much an educational trip where students had the chance to bask in the rich cultural aspects of these European countries, as much as a fun one where they got to build up new friendships and reinforce present ones.

4. World Cup

Of course, not an activity that students have been involved in; not directly, anyway. But it is safe to say that some have slept past 4am to catch the (often more exciting) 2.30am matches. Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, England… countries which supposedly have the strongest football teams but have so far failed to live up to the expectations the world have for them. It’s up to the remaining matches to determine if they can make it through to the knock-out rounds. But in between those late night matches, don’t forget something even more important than whether Spain really emerges as Champions…

5. Block Tests!!! (highlighted red for extra oomph!)

One more week to get information about Reaction Kinetics, Integration, DNA Replication, Cold War, Volcanoes and everything else into your head! Stick to your revision timetable and try your best not to procrastinate (although this is much more easier said than done). Do remember to get enough sleep, and to take frequent breaks. Studies show that revision should be interspersed with 5 minute breaks every 45 minutes to 1 hour for maximum effectiveness. Take time to give your brains some reprieve! Jiayou, and we’ll all go through Block Tests with a brave heart and a clear mind:)

With that, enjoy the remainder of your June Holidays, and see you all when school reopens!
