Match Report: Table Tennis Semi-finals
April 19th, 2010 by CCA PROThe stage is set. With 3-1 victories over rivals NYJC (both A’ Boys and A’ Girls), HCTT booked her place in the A’ Division Championships Finals – a repeat of last year’s final showdown with traditional rivals RJC.
The guys got off to a perfect start as Jieyan continued his “killing spree”, bagging the first point for HC. He seemed to be motivated by the praises heaped by our articles and his fellow peers, not giving his opponent a sniff in the game at all. Next up was the doubles pair of Kenneth and Ziwai. Despite producing a strong start to lead 10-7 in the first game, the duo failed to capitalize on their lead and eventually lost the match. This added extra pressure to captain Yun Hao, who played the second singles. Constantly overshadowed by Jieyan this season, Yun Hao produced a man-of-the-match performance to see off his opponent. His exquisite shot-making sent shockwaves through the HC camp as well as the crowd of bystanders. Mark and Chunkai then guaranteed our spot in the finals with a 3-1 victory in the second doubles.
Less drama ensued in the girls’ encounter with NYJC, with victories from singles players Yingxin and Kaiying and doubles duo Samantha and Mavis. We did drop a point however, as Wang Xun and Althea (who could not follow up with a win after Jieyan’s victory) slipped up against their opponents.
With semi-final wins from both RJ and HCI, the long- rivalry between both schools has been extended to this coming Friday’s (23rd April) clash-of-the-titans finals, which promises to be a mouth-watering and highly-anticipated battle. This is a fantastic opportunity for the team to set the record straight and to bring the titles home.
The team would like to take this opportunity to thank their coaches, whose breadth of skills and lessons imparted have amplified over most of our table tennis careers. We would like to extend our gratitude to our teacher-in-charge Ms. Goh and Ms Lum, especially the latter for her unwavering support, inspirational pep talks, and for being with us throughout our journey – be it coming down for our training sessions or accompanying us during our physical training sessions. We love you, Ms Lum!
Friday is D-Day! May we fight like warriors, shine brighter than the sun, hunt for glory and exercise our infinite wisdom! GO HWACHONG!
