Quick Bites: Fencing Individual Championships

The National Interschool Fencing Championships individual events were held on the 14th and 15th of April. Despite facing stiff competition from national team fencers, the Hwa Chong Fencing team achieved commendable results, clinching 1 Gold and 4 Bronzes in the individual events.

In the Women’s Epee event, Rania Rahardja (10S6F) beat her opponent comfortably with a score of 15-4 in the finals to clinch the Gold medal. Wu Wingyau (09S7B) also won a Bronze medal in the same event.

Emma Chin (09S79) demonstrated immense tactical and mental strength, overcoming a 0-9 deficit to beat her opponent 15-14 in the quarter-finals, securing a Bronze medal for the Women’s Foil event. Rania displayed impressive all-roundedness by winning the Bronze medal, her second medal of the competition.

Sabreurs Choy Yu Fong (09S7G) and Chia Ling (09S7C) met in the quarter-finals of the Men’s Sabre event. Chia Ling emerged triumphant with a score of 15-8, but lost in the semi-finals, achieving a Bronze medal nonetheless.
