August 13th, 2012 by IT DirectorHello everyone!
For our last Olympic-themed post, we will be providing you with a comprehensive coverage of the finals of the event finals that took place near the last few days of of the Olympics. We would also be providing you with the highlights of the closing ceremony.
Football Finals
The Men’s football finals were played between Mexico and Brazil. Mexico were the underdogs for the game even before the match started. Its squad was made up of relatively unknowns as compared to Brazil’s squad which contained many young talents. However, it took just 28 seconds for Mexico’s Oribe Peralta to score as Brazil were punished for their poor defending.
Mexico remained a dominant force, creating several good opportunities to score. Mexico then took a well deserved 2-0 lead when an unmarked Peralta headed in from a freekick.
After the goal Brazil went for the offense as they substituted two of their defenders out for attackers. Brazil’s Hulk then managed to score a goal in the 90th minute with a close range volley.
However this goal merely proved to be a consolation, as Mexico clung on to win the game.
Volleyball
The Men’s volleyball finals was a thrilling event with Russia making an amazing comeback to triumph over Brazil. The game started off brightly for Brazil as they breezed through the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-20. However the third set proved to be the decisive set as Russia managed to calm their nerves and they won the third set, 29-27 in an intense battle. Russia turned the tide and won the last two sets 25-22 and 15-9, clinching the gold medal in spectacular fashion.
Basketball
The basketball finals was played between the US and Spain. Both teams and breezed through the previous stages of the tournament , but the US was considered the favourites by virtue of the marquee players they had, such as Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. However they were still expecting a tough fight from Spain who themselves had experienced basketball players like Paul Gasol. Spain stuck true to this and gave the match their all but they were eventually outclassed 107-100. The US started off strongly on the first quarter ending it 35-27. However Spain recovered to within a point at 59-58 by halftime. However their efforts were in vain as the US gradually built up s lead after the break as the Spanish failed to contain the combined attack of Kevin Durant and LeBron James, and they eventually won the match.
The Closing Ceremony
The Britain Olympics has certainly been an exciting and memorable affair with plenty of world and Olympic records being broken. The Closing Ceremony ended off with an equally spectacular bang with a dazzling showcase of British music and culture. The Ceremony featured many popular pop singers and bands such as Taio Cruz and One Direction.
This was followed by a colourful display of fireworks.
The Ceremony culminated with the dousing of the Olympic Flame.
