Hwa Chong Senior Promenade 2012: A Recap

January 1st, 2013 by Prom Committee

Hi Seniors!

Happy New Year! Looking back at 2012, there are so many special memories we will never forget, and for many of us, Prom night is definitely one of them.

The theme for our prom was Serendipity, which also means a happy accident. Out of the 7 billion people out there and the countless possibilities, fate has brought us together with our friends, our classmates and our teachers.  These little unplanned encounters have impacted our lives and helped us through our ups and downs in these short but fulfilling two years. And I guess we can call that, Serendipity.

This exciting night at Swissotel the Stamford would probably be one of the last few times seniors can get together as a class, as school mates and as a batch. There were cameras flashing everywhere with gorgeous ladies in their pretty dresses and dashing gentlemen in their stunning suits – all ready to have a great time!

At the foyer, seniors enjoyed the free flow of cocktails and our photo booth with instant photo printing available!

At the photo booth:

Teachers were having lots of fun too!

Single stalk roses and bouquets were selling out fast at our Flower Booth.

Meanwhile, in the Fairmont ballroom…

Seniors getting ready for the dinner to commence!

Enjoying dinner together as a class

The night started out with a welcome address by our 38th Students’ Council Presidents, Shi Yan and Kay Hian.

Shi Yan and Kay Hian making their welcome speech

Following that, we prepared many exciting performances for our seniors while they enjoyed their dinner and photo taking.

An exhilarating Chinese dance performance presented by the J1 dancers

J2 performers dedicating a song for their batch

39th Students’ Council Song I/Cs Aloysius and Joy dedicating college songs to the seniors

Seniors enjoying the song sessions and singing college songs together

38th Students’ Council Song I/Cs Nathanael and Debbie presented a heartfelt performance

Apart from all the wonderful performances that night, there were fun and entertaining games lined up for our title nominees as they fight for their titles!

Who’s most likely to win a Nobel Peace Prize? See how many marshmallows you can stuff and say the word ‘World Peace’!

Who’s most likely to be President? Run for the chicken and answer the questions!

Next were the Campus Sweethearts! To test their chemistry with each other, we played the games ‘Taboo’ and ‘catch the ping pong’, a game adapted from the game show, A Minute to win it.

Here are our most photogenic nominees! To gauge their abilities, they each had to pose with a wacky item ^^

Next up, we have our nominees for Prom king and queen! They were each given a chance to do a pose and answer a question.

As a thank-you gesture to all title nominees for participating in our games, everyone walked away with attractive prizes that night!

This has indeed been an amazing and unforgettable night! We hope this senior promenade has been a highlight to the end of your JC life, and it has truly been an honor for us to organise it :)

As Prom drew to a close, your College life may have ended, but remember, Hwa Chong will always be here for you! To our dearest seniors, we wish you all the best for your future endeavors!

Love,

Promco’ 12

With the theme of Superheroes, the Teachers’ Day Celebrations this year recognized our teachers who always go beyond their call of duty to help us learn.

The performances during the concert included CCA performances by the String Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, MAD Hip Hop and B-boy, NCC and HCJam. Each performance was unique in its own way and entertained both teachers and students alike.

A Night to Remember – Mid Autumn Festival 2012

September 20th, 2012 by IT Director

Hi Hwa Chong!

Last Sunday, Hwa Chong celebrated Mid Autumn Festival in our very own campus with great fanfare. A night filled with fun, laughter and excitement, the celebrations saw thousands of students, alumni, staff and their family members gather under the festive lanterns and spectacular centrepiece as one big Hwa Chong family – such warmth and homeliness brings out the spirit of Hwa Chong’s MAF celebrations, fully encapsulated in this year’s MAF theme 月满黄城.

MAF

Citygate

黄城,一座盛大,具有古典美的城市

This was beautifully represented by the Citygate, which formed the majestic backdrop of the stage in the Central Plaza. Against it, a whole array of impressive performances was displayed – these included fist-pumping song sessions from HC Jam, our batchmates Joyce and Sheng Chun, as well as Claire and Earl; talent showcases by Chia Wei (together with her sister), Lion Dance, Chinese Orchestra, Chinese Dance, the Chinese Society, NYGH Wushu and HCJC Wushu; and not to forget, one of the highlights of the day, a mini concert by local pop duo 插班生 (The Freshmen)! These performances ended off with a dance item put up by the 39th Student’s Council, followed by a MAF Video prepared by Sensorium Vale.

The night’s performances ended with the spectacular Grand Light-Up that certainly awed the 3000-strong crowd on the day! This year’s Grand Light-Up featured an introduction of 4 mythical characters associated with the festival, aided by the spectacular designs on the Centrepiece, a dazzling display of lights from the lanterns in the sky, a blazing mooncake-shaped fireball and the shimmering lights on the fountain.

Exquisitely designed centrepiece with 4 panes, each displaying a mythical character in Mid Autumn Festival folklore.

Lanterns casting a warm hue over the central plaza.

The’黄城’ lanterns, a complex design formed out of 8 lanterns, evoked a warm and homely feeling.

The “mooncake” fireball set ablaze

Fountain with walking platform and wishing well

Well, what fun would the night be if it didn’t end with Hwa Chong’s favourite SODACHE? Led by our SODACHE I/Cs (with a terrific introduction), students from both past and present came together to sing, dance and cheer their hearts out!

Song

Cheer

Last but not least, thank you seniors for taking time off your busy schedules to support our event!

We hope you enjoyed MAF 2012, and we guarantee that MAF 2013 will be equally exciting! Meanwhile, look forward to other events that are in the works :)

Senior Promenade 2012 – Prom Magazine

September 13th, 2012 by IT Director

Hi seniors!

We are sure that you have been waiting excitedly for news regarding the prom magazine! As all of you might know, the prom magazine is a publication, much like a yearbook, with a page for every class, except that it is more casual and you get the chance to design your own class page in any way you want! The pages are free for all C2 classes! We hope that you will have great fun designing your class pages, but here are some guidelines to follow before you start!

Dimensions & Format:

  •  A5 size, in either colour or greyscale (however, please note that it will be printed in greyscale)
  • Preferably in landscape orientation
  • Bleeding 3mm (so that your page will not be cut off during printing), high-resolution (300 dpi)
  • CMYK colour space
  •  If you are not sure about the above specifications, please use this template : http://db.tt/OaPgWczv
  • Send the files in the photoshop (psd) file format
  • All designs to be submitted to prommag2012@gmail.com
  • When submitting the files, please remember to indicate your class and leave a contact number so we can get back to you regarding your submission as quickly and effectively as possible.

Content:

  • Class photos, individual photos – be creative, showcase your artistic talent!
  • Make your class look good! When you are older and want to reminiscence about the good ol’ days, this is what you will flip through and look at, so you will want it to be as beautiful as all the memories you have in Hwachong!
  •  Exercise class pride! This will be the last tangible thing you will be doing as part of a class effort!
  • Please do not include any indecent photos, vulgarities or other inappropriate content

Deadline:

  • As we are running on a tight printing schedule, please submit your magazine designs by 28 September 2012! (But any time earlier would be great as well!)
  • You will receive a confirmation SMS after your design has been vetted and approved.

That’s about all, seniors! We hope you will have as much fun designing your class pages as we will have creating it for you.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact us at the following numbers:

Joei – 98187912,
Xin Yi – 96675515

We will be most happy to answer your queries and concerns.

Thank you and all the best for studying for prelims :)

Love,

Joei and Xin Yi

Hey Hwa Chong!

As you might have noticed from the new, spectacular banner, Hwa Chong Institution’s Mid-Autumn Festival (MAF) 2012 is just right around the corner!

Thousands of past and present Hwa Chongians gathered and enjoyed a fun-filled night at MAF 2011.

MAF holds a special place in Hwa Chong’s history and it has always been celebrated with much fanfare in Hwa Chong for many years. This year, MAF will be held on 16 September, Sunday, from 6 to 10 pm. Expect a night of fun and joy as thousands of Hwa-Chongians, both past and present, gather as one big family to relive nostalgic memories during this heartwarming night of reunion. It will certainly be a memorable experience for those who attend, so do show up with your friends, family, CCA-mates, or classmates! Who knows, you may even meet some long-lost faces in the crowd!

Look out for exciting performances put up by local pop duo The Freshman (插班生), Nanyang Girls’ Wushu troupe and Hwa Chong’s very own Lion Dance troupe, Wushu troupe, Chinese Dance and Chinese Orchestra. Last but definitely not least, be sure to catch the Grand Light-Up, where the entire Hwa Chong will be lit-up by a dazzling display of lights!

Also, a street market offering an array of food and services will be set up on the left and right wings by various student organisations. (Expect more updates on participating stalls in the near future!). Last but definitely not least, do remember to stop by the Teahouse (茶馆) for some sinful treats and cool refreshing drinks!
