Thank You, Hwa Chong
May 21st, 2013 by IT DirectorHey Hwa Chong
It seems as if it was not long ago when we were invested as the 39th Students’ Council. In the blink of an eye, one year has passed – we have formally stepped down and will be passing our responsibilities to the 40th, whom we believe are equally, if not more capable than us and they will certainly strive hard to serve you better in the upcoming year.
Before that, however, we would like to thank the whole school for the unwavering support for our events:
In addition, thank you for your avid participation in our various welfare initiatives (Week of Welfare, Share-a-Smile, Festival of Games), SODACHE, competition cheering, IPC projects (Friendship Day, Cantabulous), as well as your continuous patronage of our Welfare Room and always offering suggestions and feedback for MOCH, HCunite and more.
Our journey has never been smooth-sailing, and many of us here would like to thank all the people who have been so understanding and always lending us support in one way or another. This journey would not have been possible without everyone’s help and contributions.
Thank you for giving us the chance to serve. It’s been a pleasure.
Signing off for the last time,
Your 39th ITDs (Suhas, Patrick and Leslie)
on behalf of the 39th Students’ Council

Nomination #2
Chermaine Wong (12S77)
Music & Dance (Modern division)
Rarely will you find someone as passionate and compassionate as Chermaine. In the eyes of her peers, she is an exemplar of balancing CCA and academics, a bright spark of optimism with steely determination and an ever-ready listening ear. She never fails to brighten up your day, even if it is just with a simple, sincere smile.
As the head of the Modern division of MAD, Chermaine goes beyond her list of responsibilities, crossing every ‘t’ and dotting every ‘i’. Ever conscientious, she pays attention to not just the administrative details, but taking care of the batch welfare and making the effort to check in on batchmates every once in awhile. With her in-charge, every dancer under her lead is able to focus on being the best they can be with her creating the best possible environment for them. She sees the best in every single dancer and treats them equally with love and respect. Always exuding selflessness during practices, she prioritises the well-being and happiness of others before her own.
A dancer for six years, her movement, though simple, speaks to you. Her dancing doesn’t only show how accomplished she is as a performer, but also the boundless love she has for the modern family. If Chermaine were to have a motto, it would be ‘to leave no one behind’. Chermaine puts 200% of her heart and soul into ensuring that MAD modern progresses as one family.

Nomination #3
May Zin Aung Thein (12S7C)
Chinese Society
“I’ll try to be nice.” – May Zin Aung Thein
Anyone who knows May would agree that she is special in many regards. As the chairperson of Chinese Society, she is known by many to be an effective and efficient leader. She constantly gives her all in Chinese Society, and her discretion in decision-making is unparalleled. Being heavily involved in the production of “An evening of Drama 2013″ 黄城夜韵2013, May ensures that the whole production runs smoothly and is on schedule, all the while helping the CCA to improve.
While being a CCA leader, May is also a great friend to have! Her /extremely/ cold jokes are sure to kill conversations, but will still occasionally make you laugh! May will also be there to comfort you and help you through any obstacles in life. Her calm and amiable personality ensures that she has no lack of friends (and suitors) in life, despite her not being the most talkative person on Earth.
To end off, I’ll quote a thought that many have on their minds all the time about May: “You’re A May Zin (Amazing)!”

We thank you for your enthusiastic nominations! If there is anyone else whom you feel deserve to be mentioned, please send in your nomination to 39ccapro@gmail.com. Remember to include a photograph and also state their full name, class and CCA(s).

SODACHE of the Month – April
April 21st, 2013 by IT DirectorHey Hwa Chong!
Do you remember jamming out to 情真情深 during MAF but not actually knowing how this college song originated? Or how about that awkward moment when you wanted to dance Wild Wild West with your classmate but tripped over her foot during the second set because you forgot the moves? And don’t even get started on how during the sports competition session, you jumbled up the words for Rock You and appeared a little more spastic (than usual)…
SODACHE is a long cherished, unique component of our Hwa Chong college culture. It not only bonds the whole school as a community but also brings back so many school memories shared with our dearest and closest friends.
Coming to you regularly, served piping hot fresh off HCunite, let Team ECACO share with you more about one song, dance and cheer every month! Learn the lyrics, practice the moves and get the chants right! We are proud to present… SODACHE of the Month!
For the month of April, the song of the month is 只为那爱我愿, composed by the 12th Students’ Council Song I/C, Sook Neo. The lyrics of this song describe the students’ dedication to work towards a common goal for the betterment of the school. The song speaks strongly about the love for Hwa Chong and that despite the trials and tribulations, Hwa Chongians will remain strong, push on and enjoy the journey. Through hardships and difficulties, students will grow as individuals as they strengthen their characters. 既然爱上了又为何不付出?
The dance of the month is TOGETHER IN ELECTRIC DREAMS, an up-tempo and exciting dance that will keep you constantly moving on the dance floor! Be prepared for ELECTRIFYING moves. ^^
The cheer of the month is GO FIGHT WIN! Let’s cheer our hearts out for schoolmates this season! Focus, give in your best, and most importantly, HAVE FUN. ;D Cool fact: The words “GO FIGHT WIN” are painted on the biggest banner in school, stretching up to 30 metres in length. xD
Now that you are familiar with this month’s college song, dance and cheer, we look forward to seeing more Hwa Chongians display our strong school spirit! Comment at the HCunite tagboard to tell us which SODACHE should be featured for the month of May. ;D We look forward to your active participation!
With love,

Let us revisit this amazing journey in pictures.

Hwa Chong’s Hall of Fame – February Nominations!
February 27th, 2013 by IT Director
HEY HWA CHONG!
Interested to find out which of your fellow schoolmates have been nominated for February’s Hall of Fame?
Wait no more to find out!
Nomination #1
Tham Wan Qing (12S7B)
“Issues!!” Those who know Wan Qing all know this signature catchphrase of hers. Wan Qing never fails to liven up any atmosphere with her repertoire of lame jokes and puns at her arsenal. She is an amiable person and always tries her best to ensure that no one gets left out of anything.
Besides her jokes and extremely humorous self, Wan Qing can also be serious when the situation calls for it. She is a dedicated Fac Comm member and excels in Wushu, with her skills capable of making even the manliest of men feel jelly. Although she has so many commitments, Wan Qing never neglects her studies and continuously excels in them.
As the CT Rep, Wan Qing puts in effort to try to let our class have as many opportunities to do things together. Despite us not exactly being the most cooperative of all classes due to our busy schedules, she still manages to rope in the whole class for any event and have everyone be involved. 7B is really proud of her and we are glad that she is our CT Rep. She has left such a big impact on the class that her catchphrase has become the class’ favourite phrase too, and can be seen on our class tee.
If you ever see her, do remember to tell her that she has issues! And she will definitely reciprocate.
Nominated by: Tan Wei Tao
Nomination #2
Chng Luey Chi (12A15)
ELDDFS
As the debate wing head of ELDDFS, Luey Chi has worked tirelessly to help his peers and juniors in improving their debate skills. By organising training sessions and even conducting them sometimes, Luey Chi is a leader who has guided the debate wing to achieve greater heights. Being an excellent debater himself, he has set a great example on various competition platforms. His dedication to debate is undeniable. He is like a friendly, honest teacher to everyone.
However, Luey Chi is not just all work and no fun! He has often helped to contribute amusing and wonderful ideas to help make CCA more fun for others. His ideas are novel and has helped improve ELDDFS in various ways. Aside from his humour, Luey Chi’s efficiency is also much appreciated. Despite his heavy commitments with the wing and other CCA activities, Luey Chi is never hesitant about helping other wings and is always willing to offer his service.
Essentially, Luey Chi is like a mushroom – reasonably cute and a fun guy (fungi).
Nominated by: Dorothy So
Nomination #3
Lee Wen Li (12S6E)
Chinese Orchestra
As Vice-President of Chinese Orchestra, Wen Li always strives to do her best to help HCCO achieve the best of results. With her outgoing and bubbly personality, she is often approached by her peers. She has contributed greatly to the welfare and musicality of HCCO by organising various events such as HCCO Interaction and an array of performances, for example, the Chinese New Year performance. Despite her hectic schedule, Wen Li still manages to juggle both her schoolwork and CCA commitments. It is no wonder that she is a role model for many of her peers.
Despite excelling in both her CCA and academics, Wen Li remains humble and modest, and is always willing to lend a helping hand to her friends in need. Her enthusiasm is infectious and has influenced many of her peers to strive towards their goals. She demonstrates passion and drive in everything that she does. She not only possesses great leadership skills but also demonstrates great character.
Nominated by: Lucas Yap
